Papy Mukenge is new Bluewater District School Board superintendent of education
Papy Mukenge (above) has been appointed superintendent of education with the Bluewater District School Board, effective Aug. 1.
A dedicated educational leader, Mukenge has more than 20 years of service in education across Ontario and internationally. He began his teaching career in 2002 with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board as an intermediate French Immersion teacher. Locally, he has spent most of the past decade at the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, serving as vice-principal, principal, and most recently, acting superintendent of education.
Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to equity, inclusive education, and student achievement, with a focus on creating learning environments where every student feels a sense of belonging and is supported to succeed. He brings valuable global perspective through his leadership roles as principal of the Canadian International School of Egypt, and middle school principal at Haven of Peace Academy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Since relocating to Bruce County in 2017 with his wife and three children, Mukenge has been proud to call Saugeen Shores home and values the strong connections between schools and communities. Outside of his professional role, he enjoys walking the trails along the shores of Lake Huron.
“It is an honour to join the Bluewater District School Board and serve its students, staff, families, and communities," said Mukenge. "I believe that public education plays a vital role in advancing equity, fostering inclusion, and supporting the success and well-being of every learner. My commitment is to work collaboratively with educators, families, and community partners, including Indigenous communities, to create learning environments that are responsive, culturally relevant, and grounded in respect, relationships, and high expectations for all. I look forward to building on the strong foundation within Bluewater to support student achievement, promote well-being, and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.”
“Congratulations and welcome to Papy (Mukenge) as he joins Bluewater to help lead and support our system level work as a member of our senior leadership team,” said education director A.J. Keene. “The depth and diversity of experience and expertise he brings to the table will be invaluable, particularly in the equity and Indigenous education portfolios that will fall under his purview. We look forward to the addition of his strong and proven leadership and varied professional insight.”
In his new role, Mukenge will oversee an area of schools and manage a portfolio of system duties.
