Ira Belle Berndt (née Johnston) of Tiverton died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Huron Shores Hospice, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in her 103rd year.
Beloved wife of the late Louis Berndt.
Dearly missed by her family, Ron and his wife, Beverley of Teeswater; Arnold and his wife, Roberta of Tiverton; and the late Sharon Woods; as well as Garry Woods and Cathy.
Cherished grandmother of Jason (Tammy), David (Erin), Debbie (Jay), Robbie (Lisa), Sheri, Sonya (Dean), and Cory; loved great-grandmother of Spencer, Ella, Jaxson, Amelia, Adelyn, McKenna (Tyler), Nathaniel, Rachel, Emily, Aliya, Tori (Argjend), Carson (Abby), Nash and Bella; and great-great-grandmother of Kaynin.
Also lovingly remembered by Kevin, Jennifer and Jessica and their families.
Survived by her sister, Georgina, and her husband, Don MacDermid; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, George and Birdie Johnston; and by her sister, Eva Sawyer, and her husband, Stewart.
Ira was born and raised on the family farm in Kincardine Township. She married Louis Berndt, June 16, 1945, and they farmed the Berndt farm in Bruce Township, primarily milking cows, and raising pigs and hens. In later years, they switched to beef cattle and pigs and growing crops to feed the livestock.
They moved into Tiverton Park Manor, Nov. 1, 2007, and he died about a year later. Ira continued to live there, enjoying the many activities and visiting with other residents.
With heartfelt gratitude, the family thanks the staff at Tiverton Park Manor for the many years of love and care given to Ira. The family is also grateful for the love and compassionate care Ira received from the staff and volunteers at Huron Shores Hospice over the past month and especially the comforting care provided to the family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, from 7-9 p.m., at the Eagleson Funeral Home, Southampton.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.
Interment to follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Huron Shores Hospice or to Shiloh Community Church United Brethren.
