Inverhuron resident Drew Robertson is calling on Kincardine council to re-open the beach access at the bottom of Bruce County Road 15 in the hamlet.
Robertson brought his request to the council meeting Wednesday night (July 8), saying the current situation is hazardous and must be corrected.
He told council a pile of rocks was dumped there in 2020 when the water level was exceptionally high, to protect against shore erosion. This made the beach inaccessible, but there was an understanding that the rocks would be removed when the lake level receded.

"The lake levels have now receded," said Robertson, "and there is a sand beach between the rocks and the water.
"Currently, the rocks are uneven and dangerous to walk on and the current barrier is not effective at preventing people from passing through. There is a temporary barricade that some people are using as a gate to swing open and stumble through the rocks to the beach.
"There is limited access to Inverhuron beach, especially with parking. County road 15 has always been the main access. It has a park, porta-potty, picnic tables, swings and parking."
Robertson said many of the residents along that stretch of beach have created safe passage to the beach by re-arranging the rocks to have a flat walkway through them.

He said he met at the site with councillor Bill Stewart, Gary Jackson, and Mike Di Giovanni, parks and facilities manager, to see what could be done.
"The best option is to re-arrange the rocks and add a few new flat rocks to create a path," said Robertson. "This retains the erosion protection if the water level were to rise in the future. The work could be done in a day at a cost of approximately $2,000. If this is not deemed feasible, then removing the rocks would be the next best alternative.
"The current situation is hazardous and needs to be corrected. The access to the beach at county road 15 needs to be made safe. The rocks should either be removed or re-arranged to create safe passage."
Deputy mayor Mike Hinchberger said the issue should be referred to staff for an overall assessment of the beach access points along there.
Council agreed.
