Civic Holiday weekend enforcement targets unsafe driving

(ORILLIA, ON) - With increased traffic on the roads during the Civic Holiday long weekend, the OPP was patrolling the roads, trails, and waterways in our communities to help keep everyone safe.

Over the weekend, the OPP issued about 8,240 charges related to traffic and marine safety, including:

  • 3,921 for speeding

  • 579 for seatbelt infractions

  • 77 for distracted driving

  • 188 for impaired driving

  • 128 related to compliance with Ontario's Move-Over Law

Safety is everyone's responsibility and by making safe and responsible choices, we can all help make our communities safer.

The OPP thanks all drivers and passengers who made safety a top priority this long weekend. Together, we can continue to prevent avoidable tragedies on our roads.
