Ruth Irene Dobrensky of Lucknow, died, surrounded by family members, Aug. 19, 2026, at Huron Residential Hospice, Clinton, at the age 79.
Survived by her life-long friend and cousin, Diane Wartnaby; sister, Linda and Marc Robitaille; sister-in-law, Marie and John Gonciarz; nephews, Tom (Kristy) Robitaille and family, and Dan Robitaille; and nieces, Melissa and Matt Simon and family, Melinda and Ron Tessman and family, and Melanie Koutras and family.
Ruth was born in Toronto and grew up, went to school and worked in Cambridge. She moved to Toronto in 1977 and lived and worked there for many years, the longest at Clark Henning Accounting.
She moved to Lucknow in 1999 and worked at the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 309, Armstrong Bakery, and finally retired after working at the Lucknow Sentinel.
In her younger years, she had many, many fabulous trips to far away places, such as Iceland, Japan, Egypt, France, Monaco and many of the Caribbean Islands and several trips to the British Isles, just to name a few of her destinations.
Ruth had a long-time connection with the Canadian Girls In Training (CGIT) Association. She was the founding member of the Lucknow Sepoys Ranees and encouraged others to take leadership roles. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Lucknow until it closed and she moved her affiliation to St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Wingham where she was an active member and dedicated volunteer.
She learned to play baseball at the age of five and continued to play until she moved to Lucknow. Her love of baseball extended to the Toronto Blue Jays for whom she was a devoted fan.
All her life, she was surrounded by the unconditional love of her many feline fur babies and if you knew Ruth at all, you know they meant more to her than anything else.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Paul’s Anglican, Wingham.
Interment, South Kinloss Cemetery.
