Race for mayor, councillors in Huron-Kinloss as candidates' list is certified

Huron-Kinloss clerk Jennifer White has certified the list of candidates for the Oct. 26 municipal and school board election, and there will be a race for mayor and councillors, as well as one school board trustee position. The deputy mayor's position has been acclaimed.

The certified slate of candidates includes:

Mayor (one to be elected)

• Don Murray

• Shawn Plante

Deputy mayor

• Jim Hanna (acclaimed)

Councillor (five to be elected)

• Shari Flett

• Scott Gibson

• Tracy Irwin

• Kirk Livingston

• Ed McGugan

• Carl Sloetjes

In Huron-Kinloss, the seven-member council consists of the mayor, deputy mayor and five councillors.

SCHOOL BOARDS

Bluewater District School Board trustee

• Jan Johnstone (acclaimed)

Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board trustee

• Lori Di Castri (acclaimed)

French-language public district school board trustee (one to be elected)

• Rachael Golem

• Eric Lapointe

French-language separate school board trustee

• Michael Salvatore (acclaimed)

Election timetable:

• Sept. 1 - Preliminary list of electors released to the public

• Oct. 19 - Voting period for electors begins at 10 a.m.

• Oct. 23 - Third-party registration period closes

• Oct. 26 - Final day to vote (ends at 8 p.m.)

• Nov. 15, 2026 - council term begins

• Nov. 14, 2030 - council term ends
