(HURON COUNTY, ON) - Local teen Mya McCann (above, and at right) enjoyed a long list of experiences in a paid summer employment opportunity through the Youth in Policing initiative, with the Huron County OPP this summer.
Aug. 28, she completed her employment term and is soon off to university and hopefully, a career with the OPP.
Here's what she had to say about her experience this summer:
"I had the great opportunity to be the 2026 Youth in Policing initiative student with the Huron County OPP this summer.
"Over the past few months, I participated in many ride-a-longs with officers, seeing calls first-hand, traffic enforcement and attended many Youth in Policing student events.
"I visited OPP general headquarters in Orillia, the Ontario Police College in Aylmer, the OPP Communications Centre in London, the OPP Mount Forest Forensic Identifications Unit, and the Parliament Buildings in Toronto.
"Overall, this has been an amazing experience and one that I would do all over again if I could. This opportunity gave me an amazing look at what policing is and sparked my interest significantly. I would recommend this program to any youth interested in policing.
"In the fall, I am attending university for Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice, and plan to be back here in four years applying for an OPP provincial constable position! Thank you, Huron County OPP, for this amazing experience!"
The Huron County OPP wishes McCann best wishes on her future endeavours and hopes to see her in an OPP uniform when she's ready!
