Carol Ann Atkinson (nee Helm) of Lucknow, died Sept. 13, 2026, at the Wingham Hospital, at the age of 86.
Beloved wife of the late D.W. Woody Atkinson, who predeceased her in 2024.
Dear mother of David (Karen) of Auburn, Steven of Lucknow, Ken (Linda) of Lucknow, and Debra of Waterloo.
Proud grandma of Jonathon (Samantha), Theresa (Duncan), Melissa (Beth), Emily (Frank), Rebecca, Justin (Ashley), and Jessica (Dalton); and great-grandma of Sadie, Nora, Parker, Charlotte, and Evalina.
She will be missed by her brother, Evans (Barb) Helm; and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, Ruth (nee Evans) and William Helm; her sister, Eunice Dunsmuir; and brother, John Helm, and his wife, Mary.
Carol left the family farm in Ashfield Township, and attended Bruno’s Beauty School in London, where she became a licensed hairdresser.
She married Wayne in 1961 and life was busy with four children at home. She loved gardening and could still be seen tending to her gardens up until recently.
Carol always had a loving relationship with animals, from the time she was a child throughout her life, be it cats, dogs or birds in her garden.
She loved music and her voice graced the Lucknow United Church choir and Sunday Sunshine, along with her trio. She travelled locally with her choir mates to brighten the days of many retirement home residents.
Carol was happiest around family, and she and Woody enjoyed attending all their grandchildren’s sporting events.
Rest gently, Mom, we will miss you greatly!
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, from 11 a.m., until time of the funeral at 1 p.m., at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow.
Interment, Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow.
Memorial donations to the Lucknow United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
