A capacity crowd of 220 people gathered at the Kincardine Legion, Friday night, for an amazing, high-energy performance by the Great Canadian Duelling Pianos.
The dynamic duo of Joel Lightman and Cody Fenwick started hammering the keyboards at 8 p.m. and didn't stop through almost three hours of continuous rocking and rolling, with the enthusiastic crowd singing along to almost every tune.
The show was built around song requests submitted by the audience throughout the night. The pair of pianists drew from this basket of requests and started playing a song. Lightman noted that a simple piece of paper with a song written on it was a "suggestion," while a piece of paper with a song written on it and a $20 bill attached was a "request!"
The hijinks and shenanigans made for a hilarious evening, as the crowd could also lay money down to have the pianists stop playing a song. Meanwhile, others could put down more money to have the song continue.
At one point, the song, "Bohemian Rhapsody," was played but stopped, then more money was put down for it to continue and even more was presented for it to stop. Finally, $60 was placed on the piano for the song to go ahead!

It was all in good fun, with proceeds going to the BUILDKD-plus campaign for enhancements to the new Kincardine District Senior School. The $4.5-million campaign will fund improved technical and shop rooms, an outdoor track and turf field, a cafetorium, and much more.
Besides the Duelling Pianos, the event featured a 50/50 draw, the sale of KDSS swag, and donations being accepted.
During the evening, Green Acres Campground presented a $1,000 donation, and Derek and Erin Frook who won the 50/50 draw, returned their $850 plus another $150 to make it an even $1,000.
As the pianists came to the end of their program, the audience jumped to its feet in a standing ovation, demanding more, and receiving a brilliant encore.
