Walker House Museum set to open new exhibit featuring history of Kincardine Hospital

Generations of care, commitment and community spirit are being celebrated with a new exhibit, "Kincardine Hospital: A Legacy of Community Health Care," on display in the North Room at the Walker House Museum in downtown Kincardine.

Slated to open Nov. 8, the story boards, photographs and artifacts feature the history and development of the Kincardine District General Hospital since it opened in June, 1909, examining the commitment, dedication and community involvement that shaped its growth and continue to support its future.

The exhibit tells the stories of the doctors, nurses and community members whose dedication helped shape local health care, and explores how their contributions expanded access to quality medical care for Kincardine and the surrounding area.

It also showcases how their legacy continues today as the hospital grows to meet the needs of the community.

Patrons of the Walker House and the media enjoyed a preview of the exhibit, Thursday afternoon.

Sylvia Leigh, president of the Paddy Walker Heritage Society, welcomed the small crowd and thanked curator Lydia Treidlinger for her hard work and dedication over the past two years, bringing many new activities and exhibits to the museum.

The hospital exhibit was put together at super-sonic speed, said Leigh, and is the result of a collaboration among the museum, the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, and Heritage Kincardine.

The display will remain at the Walker House Museum until Jan. 1, 2027, when it will become a travelling exhibit, making stops throughout the community and beyond.

Admission is by donation.
