Hugh Girvin of Kincardine leaves behind legacy of grace, mercy and kindness

Hugh Moore Girvin of Kincardine died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Oct. 31, 2026, at the Kincardine Hospital, in his 77th year.

Cherished husband of Margaret Alice Girvin (Buwalda), devoted father of Marianne Brown (Christopher), Amy Girvin, Alison Humphrey (Tom), and Jessica Kelley (Dan).

Adoring grandfather of Keelyn and Justus, Samuel, Andrew and Anna, Norah, Kate, Dean and Ruth.

Dearly missed by his sisters, Christine Thompson (John) and Liz Saunderson (Bill); and sister-in-law, Valerie Girvin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his father, Andrew Davison Girvin; mother, Isabel Girvin (Moore), older brother, Alan Girvin; and brother-in-law, Davy Montgomery, all of Northern Ireland.

Born Dec. 16, 1949, in Larne, Northern Ireland, Hugh immigrated on his own to Canada, Feb. 23, 1973. He married Margaret, Sept. 27, 1974.

In 1977, Hugh and Marg moved to Kincardine where he began working at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development. Together, they established their lives in Kincardine.

Hugh became a pilot in 1975 and loved to fly airplanes as a hobby. He was a member of the Kincardine airport committee for years.

During his early years in Kincardine, he played for the Barbarians Rugby team, and as the years went on, he continued to support the team by watching the games. He also spent time coaching his girls' local soccer teams through the years.

Hugh enjoyed driving, whether it was a rally car, a motorcycle, or a bus. He loved building and fixing things as he had a very inquisitive mind. He was always up for an adventure and loved road trips, mission trips, and going new places.

He was the living definition of loyalty, steadfastness, and gentleness. The most important part of his life was his faith and love for Jesus. It came through in the way he loved, served and treated all those who were fortunate to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of grace, mercy and kindness.

Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 13, 2026, from 6-9 p.m., at The Harbour Church, Kincardine.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Harbour Church, Kincardine.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada or the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made on-line at www.cameronsofkincardine.com.
