Purple Grove news

Nice to see Karen McInnes' photo in the JB's Lingerie store window in downtown Kincardine. Thanks to all the participating businesses that are featuring the folks who have Down Syndrome. The ‘Lots of Socks’ campaign is promoting World Down Syndrome Day today (March 21).

Some of the Logtenberg family got together last Monday to celebrate Grandpa Derk’s birthday, and some of the grandkids' birthdays too, at home in Goderich.

Tuesday last week, Diane Clifford, Heather Finnie and Fran Farrell attended the Ontario Volunteer Service Award Ceremony held in Stratford, receiving their 25- and 20-year pins for volunteering with Purple Grove Community and Women’s Institute. Heather also received a five-year pin for her work with the Air Cadets. On the trip down, between Walton and Monkton, they also saw another huge flock of trumpeter swans resting on their migration route.

Thirty-five children attended the Horticultural Society meeting, Wednesday at the complex in Ripley, and made seed bombs for the garden this year; they also played Flower Bingo. Thanks to the conveners, Tryntje Eisen, Sandra MacDonald, and Heather Newman, and to Susan Nichols who donated the clay for the bombs. Everyone had a great time – even the older kids!

Thursday, Geoff, Sandra, Thomas and Patrick Farrell hosted an open house of their new barn and their Lely Robot milking system. A great crowd came out to the event and appreciated seeing the cows and calves and, of course, the treats were excellent too!

Happy Birthday to Marilyn Reid, last week. The Reid family got together Saturday evening to celebrate the March birthdays.

Congratulations to the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team 781 of Kincardine! The team was part of the Alliance that won first at the Buckeye Regional robotics competition in Cleveland, Ohio, on the weekend.

The Holyrood Butchers, Kintail Flyers and Lucknow Lancers of the 1960s, '70s and '80s, held a reunion hockey game in Lucknow, Saturday evening. It was hard to say who actually won that game – it’s amazing how many of those “old” guys still skate!

Great to see Ripley decked out with all the hockey sweaters. Go Wolves Go! There was lots of hockey in Ripley last week with end-of-season tournaments. Congratulations to all the coaches and players on another great season and to the Kincardine Bulldogs on winning their series against the Walkerton Hawks, Sunday afternoon.

The training workshops for caregivers for the Rural Women’s Health Support Initiative have been organized for Wednesday, June 1, in the Social Room in Ripley, and Thursday, June 2, at the Tara Legion.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are under the weather, and travelling a lot over the Easter weekend!  Easter greetings from Purple Grove and Happy Spring! Have a great week everyone.
