To the Editor: RE: "Kincardine residents argue on both sides of the Great Gate Debate"
Wednesday, Jan. 28, Kincardine council heard from people asking that the gates on Victoria Street in Inverhuron be opened when Highway 21 is closed. Council also heard a presentation that the present practice (gates open only for emergencies) not be changed.
As a person who purchased property on a dead-end street, and later had it extended to another street in a neighbouring subdivision, I asked that it not be connected. It was, and I now use it every day.
I wonder why Victoria Street residents should be privileged to continue to live on a dead-end street when there is now a connection to a municipal road.
The option not mentioned at the council meeting could have been "REMOVE THE GATES". People will normally use Bruce County Road 23 (the B-line) when it is open. Large trucks will not use Victoria Street on a regular basis unless they have business in the vicinity.
The question needs to be asked as to why Bruce Power employees are privileged over all other employees, as well as the ordinary residents in that area. Obviously, Victoria Street can be closed when necessary. This is required sometimes on other streets/roads in the municipality.
