Members of the society exhibited their flowers and plants from a list they had previously received. The list held different sections from spring flowers to house plants to designing with flowers. Also added to the list three years ago was the youth section to give members of the society's “For Our Youth” club an opportunity to enter their projects.
Ontario Horticultural Association-qualified judge Gwenn Scarrow of Tara awarded points to the best entries.
About 75 visitors, including members of other horticultural societies in the district and local flower enthusiasts (among them a strong contingent from RVilla Retirement Living), enjoyed the fragrant and colourful display along with tea and snacks, and door prizes.
Society president Ann Finlayson tallied the points received and declared Shirley Harris the winner with Most Points Overall, followed by Tryntje Eisen, second, and Gwyneth Farrell, third.
In the youth section, Joslynn Curran and Jaclyne Newman shared first place with Most Points Overall. Megan Pope, Natalie Newman and Mylee Knoop were second, and Maggie Duncan and Dylan Knoop, third.
All participants are to be congratulated for a wonderful show.
Meanwhile, Saturday, May 21, the junior horticulturalists gathered at the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens to prepare their entries for the flower show. The children made mini-toy gardens with all natural materials to be entered for judging in the show.
Prizes for the Ontario Horticultural Association's District 8 poster competition were also handed out. The theme was "Around Our Home and Native Land," and taking first place was Josie MIddelkamp, while taking second place were Natalie Newman and Alayna Middelkamp, and Aurelie Bronkhorst won third.
