Seven Kincardine-area groups receive funding through Community Foundation Grey Bruce

Community Foundation Grey Bruce hosted a celebration of sharing Tuesday evening, May 31, at the Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton.

The foundation distributed $347,915 to 85 charities and not-for-profit organizations from across the region. Representatives from a variety of groups were present to pick up their cheques and to share their stories. Among them, were seven from the Kincardine area, including the following:

  • Artful Hands Kincardine, $1,130 for replacement of signs
  • Community Living of Kincardine and District, $2,000 to do a series of videos
  • Kincardine Ladies Fitness Co-operative, $1,000 for sign replacement
  • Rotary Club of Kincardine, $5,000 for accessibility mats at the beach
  • Victoria Park Gallery, Kincardine, $1,000 for LED lighting and upgrades to the office
  • Bruce Botanical Food Gardens, $1,500 for the installation of a facility to grow plants, to host workshops and increase storage
  • Township of Huron-Kinloss, $2,000 for the Ripley Food Art Craft Festival

All of the recipients expressed gratitude to the organizations, individuals and families that have generously invested in the future of Grey and Bruce by endowing funds and legacy gifts with the foundation.

"What an exciting year 2016 has been already for the foundation," said Kim West, chairperson of the foundation board. "We welcomed the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, to a luncheon in Owen Sound and launched the 'payforschool' website that supports his Smart and Caring Education initiative.

"We are very excited with the hire of our new executive director, Stuart Reid, who needs no introduction to the region; and we are busy getting ready to host our next guest speaker, Adrienne Clarkson, in October. Watch for details to follow. All of these activities allow us to give back to our community as we are doing this evening, to make it a better place to live."

Created in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has a mandate to strengthen Grey and Bruce communities through endowment-building, grant-making, and community partnerships. The foundation is currently accepting letters of intent for capital projects until July 1.

These grants for $3,500 to $35,000 per project will be distributed in the fall for renovations, retrofits and capital equipment for registered charities and qualified not-for-profit organizations. The next general grants deadline for projects and programs is Sept. 30, 2016.
