IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED IN GODERICH
(GODERICH, ON) - A 39-year-old Fordwich man is facing a number of driving charges, following an incident that took place May 27.
At approximately 11:22 p.m., a concerned witness contacted police after she observed an impaired driver nearly strike a tree while he attempted to park his vehicle at the Cambria Road North entrance to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital. The witness also watched as the driver fell to the ground after he exited his GMC Safari van. The driver then stumbled across the street and waited outside the emergency room entrance.
Within minutes a Huron County OPP officer arrived on scene and located the male driver who was showing several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. Officers searched his vehicle and observed a partial bottle of liquor resting in the centre console.
Upon speaking with the witness and confirming the identity of the driver, the man was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving. He was then transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 39-year-old Jordan BARTOSEK of Fordwich has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Driving While Under Suspension and Have Open Liquor Other than Licensed Establishment, Residence or Private Place.
He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich June 20. He was served with a 90-day automatic driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
RECKLESS DRIVE-BY LEADS TO CHARGES FOR TWO STUDENTS
(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Two high school students are facing some serious driving-related charges, following an incident that probably started out as a joke for the pair.
Wednesday, June 1, about 400 students and staff members of Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton, participated in a walk-a-thon fund-raiser, walking from the school to Varna.
At approximately 11 a.m. a side-by-side, go-cart-style vehicle (UTV) and a four-wheel All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) raced down Bannockburn Line toward the large group of walkers, driving in a reckless manner. The drivers of the off-road machines whizzed by dangerously close to the walkers and the police cruiser that was leading the escort.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the young drivers failed to stop and fled into the bush. Less than a half-hour later, the two dangerous drivers returned and were once again observed driving in an erratic manner, nearly hitting some of the students. In addition, the drivers were observed doing donuts and spraying gravel in all directions, nearly striking the walkers and the police cruiser. For a second time, they sped away from the police officer, but this time, they were identified by some of the witnesses.
The drivers later turned themselves into police, whereupon they were both spoken to and charged.
Two fifteen-year-old boys of Bluewater have been charged with the following offences:
Dangerous Driving
Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence
Fail to Stop for Police
Drive Off-Road Vehicle No Number Plate
They will both have to attend the Youth Justice Court in Goderich later this summer.
*THESE CHARGES HAVE YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
