Bervie Women's Institute learns more about the history of Bervie

June 4, 2016

History was the theme when the Bervie Women's Institute met at the hall Wednesday, June 1, at 7 p.m.

After the usual openings, the Roll Call, “A memory of Bervie,” was answered by nine members and one guest with many interesting comments.

Our recent plant, bake and yard sale showed a nice profit. Elsie Schular reported on the District Annual held May 26 at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton. The guest speaker gave an interesting talk on “Hummingbirds.”

Mildred Griffith presented “Part 2” of her History of Bervie (south side) which included property details starting at the Hodgins farm on the west end and continuing to the east end of the hamlet. In the early days, there were two hotels and four churches in Bervie with one (United Church) remaining today.

A nice lunch was provided by Janice Hewitt. The next meeting will be at the hall July 6 at 7 p.m.
