To the Editor:
RE: "Fixing shoreline erosion north of the Kincardine Harbour to cost $300,000"
I want to be sure that the community knows what some Kincardine council members want to do to our prized shoreline.
They want to randomly dump tons and tons of irregularly-shaped boulders onto the beach from the north pier, past the flag pole, past Macpherson (Tiny Tot) Park, past the parking lot, to approximately below the Dunsmoor Park washrooms. They are calling it a retaining wall.
To call it a wall is like calling Donald Trump a politician. To me, a wall is not a pile of rocks thrown randomly on the ground. If council doesn't rethink this poorly-thought-out proposal, we will lose this amazing vista forever.

This proposal was made to stop the damage that has been caused by erosion due to the high Lake Huron water level and a winter, last season, that did not produce the hills of snow and ice that protect the shoreline from damaging waves. The hills did eventually form late in the season, but did not stay long as the weather turned mild again and exposed the shoreline to spring storms.
Will this happen again? Probably, but when, and has nature already adjusted for it? What will these rocks protect municipally? A few trees, a moveable boardwalk and a swing set. Sooo, ruin a shoreline or move a few things. What would you do?

This is Saugeen Street North where armour stone was dumped to protect that area in the 1980s
I will wait to see the response from these letters to the editor and if a reversal or revitalization plan are not considered, I will be starting a petition. I hope I can count on the community to protect this gift of nature that we have been given.
