Rev. Kathy Fraser of Knox Presbyterian Church said Sunday that the Kincardine Refugee Committee’s welcoming committee met Friday evening and that the other sub-committees will be meeting this week to make sure everything is ready for the new family.
A member of the committee, Ayman Faddah, has already spoken to the Iranian family and it is excited about coming to Canada.
Fraser added that there could be delays, but as of now, the family of four should arrive July 27. Rob Shropshire, the committee’s contact with the Presbyterian Church in Canada, gave Fraser the news Friday.
The family fled Iran due to political instability and is now in Turkey waiting resettlement. Coming to Kincardine are a mother, 45, and her three adult children. The children, two men and a woman, are between the ages of 21 and 24. A male spouse may join them in the coming year. They speak little English.
The committee is looking for permanent housing for the family.
When the Kincardine Refugee Committee received this high-need application a few weeks ago, it learned that it is high on the list to receive a Syrian family when a sponsorship request becomes available.
The committee has raised enough money to sponsor two families and is looking forward to the next opportunity to assist a family in need.
