Kincardine may have to impose lawn-watering ban

The Kincardine and Tiverton standpipes will be out of service until Sept. 30 for required maintenance activities.

A press release, issued Thursday (July 14) by public works director Adam Weishar, urges property owners in Tiverton, Kincardine, Huronville, Inverhuron, and along the pipeline, who are connected to the municipal drinking water systems, to reduce their water usage as much as possible by refraining from any excess outdoor water usage, such as car-washing, driveway-cleaning, excess sprinkler usage and general water wastage.

The municipality may be required to implement an outright lawn-watering ban to ensure public safety is maintained, states Weishar. "Let’s work together to reduce consumption so we can avoid more serious water restrictions. The municipality kindly thanks all users for their co-operation and efforts to conserve."

In response to a question about hydrant flushing along Durham Street over the past few days, Weishar said that was being done to empty the Kincardine water tower in preparation for the maintenance project.
