Trillium Court hosts Mobility Scooter Rodeo and Workshop

Trillium Court Seniors' Community, Kincardine, hosted a Mobility Scooter Rodeo and Workshop, put on by the Kincardine accessibility advisory committee, Wednesday afternoon.

The workshop featured guest speakers: South Bruce OPP constable Kevin Martin, community services officer; and Kincardine deputy clerk Jennifer Lawrie of the accessibility advisory committee.

Both talked to the small crowd about the safe use of mobility scooters, including the rules of the road and how they pertain to scooter-users, and about various programs and services available in Kincardine for those with mobility issues, such as the new portable recreation mats at the beach and the Stop Gap program in downtown Kincardine.

Residents and guests were then encouraged to go outside for the Scooter Rodeo, demonstrating their skills at maneuvering a scooter through an obstacle course, similar to a bike rodeo. It was all safely done, and there were no injuries.
