Sunshine greets hundreds at Bruce Power Beach Party in Port Elgin

It was perfect weather for a beach party, Saturday afternoon, in Port Elgin.

And Bruce Power capitalized on that, hosting hundreds of people on the main beach for the annual event, held alternate years in Kincardine and Port Elgin, as a way to thank the community for its support of the nuclear generating station, northwest of Tiverton.

The beach party featured a great variety of entertainment, as well as activities, demonstrations and food.

On the main stage, were the Superhero Show, with Spiderman and the Caped Crusader; the Princess Show, with Tinkerbell and the princesses from "Frozen" and "Aladdin;" and then music by "Midtown Cross."

The Kinetic Knights Robotics FRC Team 781 had its 2014 robot, "Moose," doing demonstrations in the gazebo.

There were face-painting artists on the boardwalk, while in the parking lot were inflatables, rock-climbing walls, a photo booth, and displays by the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, Bruce County Public Library, Saugeen Shores Hospital Foundation, Explore the Bruce, and Bruce Power Emergency Services.

On the beach, were a kite-flying demonstration and giant volleyball, as well as performances by a Native Drum Group and the Penetangore Pipe Band.

During the opening ceremonies, with Phil Main as MC, several dignitaries welcomed the crowd and told everyone to have a great time, since it was a great day and a great party.

Among those taking the stage, were Kevin Kelly, acting president and chief financial officer of Bruce Power; Saugeen Shores mayor Mike Smith; Chief Lester Anoquot of Saugeen First Nation; Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie; and Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker who also brought greetings from Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and MP Ben Lobb.

The party ended with fireworks at dusk.
