Knechtel Food Market back in business

Knechtel Food Market in Lucknow is back in business!

Owners Brian and Kathy Knechtel said Wednesday (July 20) that an agreement has been reached with the landlord which allows the downtown grocery store to remain open for business as usual.

Last week, the Knechtels announced on Facebook that they were forced to close their store because they could not resolve their disagreement with the landlord, regarding fair rent for the premises. The grocery store has been a fixture in the village for 30 years, with the current location at the corner of Campbell Street and Bruce County Road 1.

At that point, the Knechtels were told they had 15 days to vacate the premises unless they paid the amount demanded by the landlord, meaning they would close their doors July 27.

Wednesday, they announced on Facebook that an agreement has been reached, and they thanked the community for its incredible support.

"We wish to thank everyone, from near and far, for the overwhelming support – the community of Lucknow as a whole, including local businesses along with the Chamber of Commerce, our family, friends and, in particular, our staff, who have remained steadfast in providing service, despite the unbelievable stresses and challenges they were facing," state the Knechtels. "It has been a roller coaster of emotions since July 12. We’re so proud of them!

"We thank you for your patience and understanding for the time and effort required, as we work to replenish our inventory and supplies in order to continue providing the quality of service you have become accustomed to at Knechtel Food Market over the past 30 years."
