Third annual "Raise a Little Health" charity hockey game raises more than $40,000
It was a night of hockey, filled with stars of the past, present and future.
The third annual Hometown Heroes “Raise a Little Health” charity hockey game was another great success, Thursday, July 21, in Goderich, raising more than $40,000.
This brings the three-year total to more than $130,000, with funds divided amongst the Goderich-Huron YMCA’s Strong Kids Program, Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health, and Alexandra Marine and General Hospital.
Players who laced up for the game included former Detroit Red Wings forward and Stanley Cup champion Boyd Devereaux; former NHLer Dave McLlwain; current Buffalo Sabers forward Ryan O’Reilly; and his brother, Cal O’Reilly, who is also with the Buffalo Sabers.
“It was another A-plus event," said Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb who organizes the game every year. "A heartfelt thanks to all of those who volunteered and to the community that came out and supported it. The line-up was filled with a lot of current and ex-NHL'ers and those striving for it."
"It was an amazing success," said Gwen Devereaux of the Goderich hospital. "A huge thank you to the community for supporting our charities, to Ben and Brian for believing we could do this and for your hard work. Thank you also to COPA (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) for providing your great burgers! You are all our Hometown Heroes.”
