Purple Grove news

Congratulations to the folks at Walkerton who worked so hard to have a great Homecoming Weekend. Janet Rhody accompanied Mandy and Don Zuk and boys to some of the activities.

Cousins from Brighton visited with Maureen and Roy Collins recently.

Members of the Ripley Junior  4-H plowing team were practising their plowing skills at the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens in Ripley, Sunday afternoon. There were nine members able to attend. Three adults were present to help them prepare for the Bruce County Plowing Match. The match will take place Sept. 2 near Tiverton. Sure hope the ground is a lot softer at the plowing match!

Wednesday, Tom and Susan Holmes and family  of Windsor visited with Jim and Fran Farrell to check on the house that was built by Tom’s great-grandfather, Thomas Holmes. Stories of coming up to visit and walk the farm were shared and collaborated from earlier times. Tom and Susan were also visiting with relatives in Kincardine that day and showing their grandchildren some of their heritage.

Fran Farrell, Lillian Logtenberg, Irene West and Melissa Burmaster enjoyed the presentation, "Anything Goes," at the Huron County Playhouse last Friday.

Family and friends gathered at the home of Wilf and Dianne Gamble, Saturday evening, for a potluck supper and get-together with Jeff Gamble and Kim (Nother) Stephen who are visiting in the area for a time.

Sympathy is extended to the families of Laurine Tremaine (Morrison), Laura MacDonald,  and Roger Cuillerier, who died recently. The Colwell connection is mourning the loss of Irene Colwell of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. She had two nephews down here -  Don and Marilyn, and Bob Geddes.

Mary Anne Kukoly visited with Alice and Allan Gamble last week. One day, Mary Anne and Carol Bogaert went on a ramble, checking out some of the places mentioned in the “Secrets of the Back 40” brochure. They even visited downtown Purple Grove!
