RE: "Motorists should not be denied safe passage on a stormy day, say readers"
A number of people commented, including Shari Storms, that the gate (between Upper Lorne Beach and Victoria Street in Inverhuron) is opened when Highway 21 and the B-line are closed, but they think it should be done in a more timely fashion.
So, according to that information, it seems that the gate has been opened multiple times since it was installed and replaced the boulders that were there. As I and other full-time, as well as seasonal residents, have said, it makes sense to open it when the other access routes are closed by the OPP.
Unless you live right beside the gate, you would never know it was open, and for how long, because no signs are posted.
And if you drive from Inverhuron to Tiverton and turn right onto Highway 21, you won't know that the highway is closed until you arrive at Kincardine Home Hardware and see the warning sign. I assume that there is another closure sign when, and if, you make it to Port Elgin. So that is a huge safety issue for people in Tiverton, as well, if they don't catch a report on the radio.
