Huron OPP report alcohol charge against teenaged driver; and abandoned stolen truck

REMINDER FOR YOUNG DRIVERS AND IMPAIRED DRIVING

(HURON EAST, ON) – A young driver of Bluewater has been fined and had his licence suspended, following his poor choice to get behind the wheel after drinking some alcohol.

Shortly after 3 a.m., Aug. 13, a Chevrolet pick-up truck entered a RIDE check point, set up at the intersection of Front Road and Kinburn Line.

While speaking with the young driver, the investigating officer noted the driver had alcohol on his breath. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a “Warn”. As a result, the 16-year-old novice driver was served with an automatic three-day driver’s licence suspension. In addition, the driver was charged with:  Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero.

As stated in the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) Driver’s Handbook, any drivers who violate any of the graduated-licensing conditions for their class of licence, will be suspended for 30 days. In addition, drivers will be subject to an administrative fee to have their licence re-instated.

The law is clear for young drivers when it comes to alcohol - Drivers who are age 21 and under, regardless of licence class, must have a BAC level of zero when operating a motor vehicle.

THIEVES ABANDON STOLEN PICK-UP TRUCK

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Two thieves had to abandon a stolen pick-up truck after the owner of the vehicle gave chase to thwart the theft.

At about 6:30 a.m., Aug. 14, Huron County OPP officers responded to the area of Martin Line and Brandon Road after receiving a call from the truck owner. Officers learned the owner of an older-model Dodge Ram pick-up truck was milking cows at his Moncrieff Road farm when he heard the sound of his truck engine revving up.

He immediately looked over to the area where the truck was parked and he watched as the pick-up raced off his property travelling westbound on Moncrieff Road. He quickly jumped into another truck and gave chase. The thieves proceeded northbound on Martin Line until they stalled the stolen truck and abandoned it in a field.

After abandoning the truck, one of the suspects hopped into an escape vehicle that was travelling with the stolen vehicle. The owner described this suspect as being a male in his early 20s and the escape vehicle was described as a grey, late-model, Ford F-150. It was last seen travelling westbound on Brandon Road toward Belgrave.

Huron OPP would like to speak with any person with information regarding this attempted stolen vehicle occurrence. Huron OPP investigators can be contacted by calling 1-888-310-1122 or 519-524-8314. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
