The Bervie Women's Institute met at the home of Betty Jean White, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m., with nine members and one guest answering the Roll Call: “How I use honey.” Many use it for baking and medicinal purposes, along with the usual uses.
Betty Jean served some nice honey treats upon our arrival – thank you for those and for organizing the tour.
Betty Ann Thompson and Sylvia Hasbury reported on their day of hosting at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton, July 29.
W.I. gate signs are now available for those who ordered them.
President Sylvia Hasbury presented the Ontario Volunteer Service awards to Norma Hartwick (25 years), Sandra MacDonald (10 years), Islay Eby (15 years), Joyce Roach (five years) and Dianne Wilson (five years) – Sylvia also received one for 25 years of service.
We then journeyed over to Lazy J Ranch Honey Products for a tour of the facility and a commentary by Gail Anderson on the honey-making process – a very interesting business in our own community. The store, "Hive 'n Hoe," also features many local products besides honey.
The next Bervie W.I. meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. with a tour of the Kincardine Fish Hatchery.
