Kincardine Ladies Fitness Co-op to celebrate first anniversary with open house

The Kincardine Ladies Fitness Co-op is celebrating its first anniversary next month, and to mark the occasion, it is holding an open house.

Scheduled for Sept. 10-11, from 1-4 p.m. each day, the open house is an opportunity for ladies to drop in and check out the gym, located in the former Kincardine Rehab Centre, at the south end of Queen Street.

The gym opened Sept. 15, 2015, and is operated by a nine-member executive. Members pay $50/month for a minimum of three months, and get use of the equipment 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Each member also agrees to work a three-hour shift once per month, helping to clean the facility, among other duties.

The centre has 17 pieces of equipment available. A dozen are part of the circuit fitness program (formerly used at FitWorx and Curves in downtown Kincardine), plus a stretching machine, stepping machine, exercise bike, treadmill and the T-zone.

When ladies first join the co-op, they are shown by one of the trainers how to properly use the equipment. They can then design a fitness program to suit their schedule and their needs.

Currently, the gym has between 60-70 members, including a number of seasonal residents, and welcomes new members.

Also, the fitness co-op just received its new sign, created by JD Signs of Kincardine and purchased with funding from Community Foundation Grey-Bruce. The gym received a $1,000 grant for the new sign and to help pay for the first year anniversary celebration.
