Kinsmen consider moving Music in the Fields to east end of Lucknow

The Lucknow and District Kinsmen are considering a plan to move the Music in the Fields event to property they own at the east end of Lucknow.

The issue came up at the Huron-Kinloss committee-of-the-whole meeting, Sept. 7, during discussion of new business.

Councillor Jim Hanna said that the Kinsmen were talking about moving the whole event to the Grace Land field they own, just north of Highway 86, behind Porter's Cement, from the current location in the Lucknow Soccer Fields at the north end of the village.

Hanna asked if the Kinsmen would require changes to the Official Plan to make this happen.

Clerk Sonya Watson said such amendments could be made to that property.

Hanna said the Kinsmen could save a lot of money by having the event located on one property, instead of the soccer fields and four campgrounds.

"It's a big deal," he said. "They could save $70,000 in security costs alone."

Rick McMurray of the Kinsmen Club confirmed this is the plan for Lucknow's Music in the Fields, the now-famous, three-day, country-music festival held at the end of August. The club has just wrapped up a successful eighth event.

McMurray said the Kinsmen and the Music in the Fields committee are working through the logistics. "We're not sure on the timing as there are many things to finalize before this can happen. But if all goes well, we're looking at doing this next year."
