Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey honoured its donors and volunteers at an appreciation night, held Wednesday evening at Rotary Park in Kincardine.

"We appreciate all the support from the community," said Tiffany Love, community and fund development co-ordinator. "We are overwhelmed by each and every donor, and by all our hard-working and dedicated volunteers."

She said this is the 30th anniversary of the women's shelter and paid tribute to the amazing people who laid the groundwork to ensure this much-needed facility was established to help women and children who are suffering from abuse and violence.

Love said that during those 30 years, Women's House has responded to 45,000 crisis calls, and assisted more than 2,000 women and many children.

"It is such a miracle to help women transition back into the community," she said. "Thank you to everyone who supports the Women's House."

The list of donors is long, said Love, and not everyone could attend to receive a certificate of appreciation.

Among the donors, are: The Co-operators, Chantry Singers, Ann Bolton, Miller Insurance, Ontario Power Generation, Bruce Power, Lucknow and District Kinsmen, Meridian Credit Union, Matchett Financial, Women's House Bridge Club, United Way of Bruce Grey, Society of Energy Professionals, Community Fund Grey Bruce, Robert Stack, SP Armow Wind, Grace United Church in Hanover, St. Anthony's Church in Kincardine, Trillium Mutual Insurance, Greenfield Specialty Alcohols, Queen's Bar and Grill, Enbridge, and the Canadian Women's Foundation.

30TH ANNIVERSARY WOMEN'S HOUSE GALA OCT. 15

This year is the 30th anniversary of the Women’s House Fall Fund-raising Gala, slated for Saturday, Oct. 15, at the TownePlace Suites Marriott in Kincardine.

A blast into the past, it will be a tribute to the Grammy Awards from 30 years ago. Come dressed red-carpet style, or as your favourite nominee or winner from 1986. Tickets are $80 and the event includes a scrumptious dinner, and both silent and live auctions, as well as the chance to win one of three elimination prizes.

This year, you will have a chance to win a stunning pair of diamond earrings donated by DC Taylor Jewellers. Remember, each ticket into the gala includes one chance to win the elimination grand prize!

“Last year’s event was a huge success and we look forward to providing a fun-filled evening again,” said Love. "The new fun item on the program this year has something to do with the golf simulator!”

Although the gala event is an evening full of entertainment, it is also an evening of charity. All of the funds raised at the gala go directly toward the services and client necessities not covered by government funding. This shelter relies on major fund-raisers, such as the gala, to ensure the current level of vital services and programs is continued for the women and children in need in the community.

Tickets are available by calling Love at  519-396-9814, Ext. 225.
