Toronto artist displays colourful oil paintings of Eastern Canada at Victoria Park Gallery
Toronto artist Nadia Crisante Rochon has brought a colourful, creative series to Kincardine's Victoria Park Gallery, for the month of October.
Her third show in the guest gallery, this time, she has a group of oil paintings inspired by the wonderful landscapes seen in the Inverness area of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Born in southern Ontario, Rochon attended the Art Gallery of Ontario Studio School Program in Toronto for two years. She went on to study at the University of Toronto (Trinity College), Osgoode Hall Law School, and OCAD (Continuing Studies).
Her work has been featured at the Victoria Park Gallery in Kincardine, and the Goderich Co-op Gallery over the past few years. In 2013, she had a series of photographs at the gallery in Kincardine, and last year, she had a series of drawings called "good.dog."
A multi-media artist, Rochon is now focusing on oil painting.
She chose to paint a series of landscapes from Inverness because it has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, she said. "There are wide, open expanses of natural landscape. It makes you pause. It's inspiring."
Rochon has visited the Inverness area several times over the past couple of years, sketching and painting.
As for having her work at the Victoria Park Gallery, she is glad to be back. She is familiar with the area since her family has a cottage south of Kincardine, near Kingsbridge.
"I have done some paintings of this area," she said, "but I would like to do a series of paintings of Kincardine and Goderich."
The Victoria Park Gallery is located in the Kincardine Arts Centre in downtown Kincardine. Its hours are Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Noon to 3 p.m. For more information, check the Facebook page at
