Pumpkins are pretty in pink for a good cause at Homefront Acres
A row of cute, little pink pumpkins sits on display at Homefront Acres, south of Pine River, on Highway 21, across from Pine River Cheese.
These are the creations of Donna Fitzgerald who works at the apple orchard and wanted to do something in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is October.
"My daughter co-chairs the Cambridge Run for the Cure," said Fitzgerald. "I volunteer at the event every year, and last year, they had these pink pumpkins available by donation. So, I decided to do it here. I've painted 28 so far, and we're down to eight."
The pumpkins are given to people in exchange for a donation to the CIBC Run for the Cure. All the funds raised go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for research into this disease.
Gail and Roger Farrell, owners of Homefront Acres, have donated all the pumpkins for this campaign, and Fitzgerald provides the paint and the hard work to give them a shiny pink coat.
She will be providing the pink pumpkins and taking donations until Oct. 30.
