Devoted Kincardine community member, Ernie Parent, dies at the age of 78
Ernest "Ernie" Joseph Parent of Kincardine died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at London's Victoria Hospital. He was 78.

Cherished husband of the late Margaret Rose Parent (née Chapeskie) (2010).

Dear father of Rodger Parent of London and Charlene (Franz Zahn) Parent of Markham. Loving grandfather of Caitlyn and Tyler Parent and Sephanie Zahn.

Son of the late Frederic Parent and Edna Babineau. Loving brother of Jeannette Irving of Campbellton, NB; Romeo (Leona) Parent of Campbellton, NB; Louis (Jeaninne) Parent of Dieppe, NB; Louisette (Xavier) Bugold of St. Arthur, NB; Rosalie Bugold of Campbellton, NB; and Marguerite Parent of Dieppe, NB. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Predeceased by brothers Germaine, Raymond, Aumand, Georges and Michel.

Ernie was a devoted and committed member of the community. He was a member of the Kincardine and District Lions Club (below, helping with a household hazardous waste day), Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 183, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kincardine and District (right, with Ryan Enright at the Bowl for Kids' Sake), Kincardine Golf Club, and helped build the Kincardine boardwalk.



He served proudly in the Canadian Military from 1956 to 1979. And he served overseas in Europe for two years, followed by two tours of duty in the Middle East (Cyprus) with the United Nations Peacekeeping Corps. He began his military career as an infantry machine gunner, and ended his career proudly serving as a member of the Provost Corps. After his military career, Ernie worked for many years in security at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development.

Private arrangements entrusted to the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine.

Final resting place, Kincardine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kincardine and District, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
