(GODERICH, ON) – A 51-year-old Goderich man will have to attend court in November to face an Over-80 charge, following a traffic stop that took place Oct. 14.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., a Huron County OPP officer spotted a Jeep Grand Cherokee pull up to the intersection of South Street and Elgin Avenue. The officer noted one of the headlights was not working on the vehicle so he followed it to conduct a traffic stop.
A few blocks away, the Jeep pulled into a laneway located on Quebec Street. While speaking with the male driver, the investigating officer noted he had alcohol on his breath. A roadside screening test was performed which resulted in the driver registering a fail. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle - Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 51-year-old Christopher PLANT of Goderich has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 7, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
