(GODERICH, ON) – A 43-year-old Goderich woman is facing an Over-80 alcohol charge, following a traffic stop that took place late Tuesday night, Oct. 18.
At 10:37 p.m. Huron County OPP officers received information about a possible impaired driver travelling into Huron County. Officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a Chevrolet Cruze. A little while later, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers spotted the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on Huron Road in the Town of Goderich.
A traffic stop was initiated and the car pulled over at the intersection of Oxford Street and Huron Road. Upon speaking with the female driver, the investigating officer suspected the driver had been drinking some alcohol. As a result, the driver had to provide a sample of her breath into a roadside screening device. The test was administered and the driver registered a Fail.
She was immediately placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. She provided two samples of her breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of her samples registered over the legal limit.
43-year-old Tara DEMELO of Goderich has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 5, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. She also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and her vehicle was towed and has been impounded for the week.
