Ripley Legion posts memorial Second World War banners on Queen, Huron Streets

If you stroll through downtown Ripley and glance up, you'll see 12 banners hanging from the light standards along Queen and Huron Streets.

This is a project by the Ripley Legion to remember the 12 men from Ripley and Huron Township who died in the Second World War.

Don Large of the Legion spearheaded the project. "The company contacted us (about the banners) and we thought it was a good idea," he said. The next step is to do a similar commemoration of the men who died in the First World War.
 

The 12 banners follow the stories in the book, ”The Twelve Crosses," written and published by the Ripley Legion. You can read more about these brave men - a copy of the book is available at the Ripley Library and at the Legion.
