Ripley Horticultural Society raises almost $570 in festive planter auction
The Ripley and District Horticultural Society held its annual Christmas potluck luncheon Wednesday at the Ripley Complex, with about 60 members and guests attending.

Following the meal, there were a number of presentations.

Courtney Bridge of RBC Royal Bank presented an award to Shirley Harris for top points at the horticultural society's flower show.

Sharon Nivins, district director of the Ontario Horticultural Association, presented a special recognition award to Tryntje Eisen for her achievements with the youth horticultural club. Eisen accepted the award on behalf of her fellow leaders, Mary Rose Walden, Heather Newman and Linda Jaynes. "We make a wonderful team," she said.

Ripley horticultural society president Ann Finlayson presented the president's award to Shirley Harris for her outstanding contributions to the club.

Gail Vander Hoek and her team, including Shirley Harris, Sandra MacDonald, Eleanor Rutledge and Christine Roberts, had created about 20 beautiful festive planters which Vander Hoek then auctioned off to the highest bidder. The bids ranged from $20 to $50, with the auction raising almost $570.

The Ripley horticultural society has about 50 members and is celebrating its 90th anniversary next year.
