Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world with clubs in 208 countries, will be celebrating its centennial in 2017.

To celebrate, clubs have been asked to perform a new service project for their communities.

The Tiverton and District Lions Club chose to supply books to the 338 students, in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3, at Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School, as their Centennial Community Legacy Project.

Through the Read and Rise program, the club, in partnership with Scholastic Canada, was able to purchase double the number of books that the school could have purchased for the same amount of money. Students in each of the 15 classrooms selected five books, at a total cost of $350.

Not only are the Lions Club members servicing the school by supplying some books, but they are also promoting the Lions Literacy program, one of the many Lions International programs.
