A great crowd of students filled the atrium at Trillium Court Seniors' Community, Kincardine, Friday afternoon, as members of the band and choir at Huron Heights Public School, Kincardine, performed under the direction of Shelley Van Veghel.
The band includes Grades 6-8 students, while the choir consists of Grades 4-8 students. In addition, several Grades 7-8 pupils played solos and duets on their instruments, and one student sang "White Christmas."
One of the highlights was the dynamic and spirited music of a jazz ensemble, performing "Jazzy Merry Christmas."
Another wonderful highlight was a surprise guest, Les Patterson, who performed on his harmonica, much to the delight of the students and the crowd. The 91-year-old resident of Trillium Court is self-taught and has been playing the harmonica for many years. His daughter, Janet Browne, accompanied the choir during the Huron Heights performance.
The Huron Heights band and choir travelled to Tiverton Park Manor, Friday afternoon, to repeat their show there. Several volunteers assisted the troupe, including Jaime Janes who helped Van Veghel with the choir.
