The Epsilon Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Kincardine, was at the Kincardine Food Bank, Thursday morning, to present a donation of $340.
Rather than hold a gift exchange, the sorority puts the money toward an annual donation to the food bank.
Gladly accepting the funds, were co-ordinators Nancy Dawson and Pat Stewart, and the crowd of volunteers who were busy sorting non-perishable food and sundry items at the food bank, located in the Anglican Church of the Messiah hall.
Stewart said the demand for the food bank is on the rise after it decreased somewhat during the summer.
"We were up again in November, with 107 visits compared to 96 at this time last year," she said, adding that there were more singles than families last month.
"This is the first year we have had to purchase food between Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Stewart. "But now, with the Christmas food drives, we are getting the shelves stocked for the holiday season. We are very fortunate to receive financial donations and food donations from such a generous community."
She added that this past summer, there were numerous gardeners, and the Good Food Box committee, providing fresh produce for the food bank. Plus, Tim Hortons, McDonald's and the downtown bake shop provide donations.
What the food bank is short of, said Stewart, is peanut butter, instant coffee, canned fruit and vegetables and fruit juice.
"We have lots of wonderful volunteers helping out," she said, and if people want to make donations, they can do so between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Thursdays, at the Anglican Church hall.
