Huron-Bruce MPP presents Remarkable Citizen awards at fifth annual New Year's Levee

After being postponed a week, the weather co-operated and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson was able to present Remarkable Citizen awards to 19 residents of Huron and Bruce counties at the fifth annual New Year's Levee, held Wednesday night in Teeswater.

"All of these individuals are beacons in their communities," said Thompson. "All the work they have done to bolster the spirit of the people around them has gone a long way to helping our communities prosper and grow in so many different ways."

Among the 19 award recipients were four from the Kincardine area, while the remainder were from Wingham, Walkerton, Brussels, Bluevale, Exeter, Teeswater and Goderich. Each was duly recognized by Thompson, along with family, friends and neighbours in attendance.

"It was truly heart-warming to hear about the selflessness of these individuals, and the diversity of talents they use to make our communities a better place to live," said Thompson. "I could not be more proud of everyone, and I am thrilled to know that these people are inspiring others all across Huron-Bruce."

From the Kincardine area, Vickie Cahill was honoured for her work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters; Blake Evans for his work in aviation; Lynn Evans for his hard work in keeping downtown Kincardine clean as evidenced by the appreciation shown by locals and visitors, alike; and Willa Schoffer for her work with the Kincardine Community Singers and the Kincardine Celebration Singers.
