Althea Devitt remembered by former student

To the Editor:
RE: "Gifted artist and writer, Althea Devitt of Tiverton, dies at the age of 97"

Mrs. Devitt was my public school teacher and a wonderful lady who took me under her wing. We were both interested in art, and attended the same night class in oil painting at Ripley District High School when I was in my teens.
 
I believe she also taught art in high school. I still have some sort of art plaque, painted in black, with a gold colour rubbed into it to emphasize the forms.
 
I was always amazed at how intense she was about her art, and churned out piece after piece after piece, while I was still scratching my head about how to do it. I thought the world of Althea.
