OPG basketball league registration extended to Feb. 21

The Ontario Power Generation (OPG) basketball league executive is seeking more players and volunteers to participate this season.

New president Jason Whitcroft, who took over from Ray Luinstra, was at the Davidson Centre Thursday morning, with league treasurer Mary Lynn Young, to accept a cheque for $3,000 from Lynda Cain of OPG.

Whitcroft said registration for the league has been extended to Feb. 21, to encourage more youth to sign up. Now in its 11th year, the league is open to players in Grades 5-8, with practices and games running from March Break to June at the Kincardine District Secondary School gym and other local school gyms. The year-end tournament is held at the Davidson Centre gym.

Registration is $40 per player and includes a T-shirt. Those interested can contact Whitcroft on his cell phone at 519-389-8106, or check the website at www.kincardineopgbasketball.com. Or pick up a registration form at the Davidson Centre, fill it out and return it there with payment.

"Once registration closes Feb. 21, we will do an evaluation based on how many players we have," said Whitcroft.

The league is also seeking volunteers to serve on the executive and to help coach the teams.
