Bruce Power CEO appreciates Kincardine's help in Exercise Huron Resolve

Bruce Power's president and chief executive officer Michael Rencheck appreciates the help of the Municipality of Kincardine in the planning and execution of Exercise Huron Resolve.

Held Oct. 3-7, the event was a way to train, test and evaluate elements of the provincial nuclear response plan, ensuring proper response to the consequences of a nuclear emergency at the Bruce Power facility.

Dean Burleigh, department manager for emergency preparedness at Bruce Power, and Stephanie Murray, section manager for drills and exercises, were at the Kincardine council meeting Wednesday night (Jan. 25), to thank council for its contribution to the exercise, along with staff from Kincardine's emergency management department, emergency services and numerous inter-departmental staff.

Those individuals, along with 500 other participants, completed the emergency training exercise which involved preparation ahead of time, and participation in the actual event, said Murray. "It's important to do these exercises, so we can practise and test out the proper procedures. This was one of the largest exercises in Canada."

Burleigh read a letter from Rencheck, recognizing the municipality "for its significant contribution and leadership in the planning and execution of Huron Resolve."

He then presented mayor Anne Eadie with a token of appreciation from Bruce Power.

"Thanks to Bruce Power," replied Eadie. "It was an interesting exercise, and it provided us with valuable information and training."
