History is theme of Bervie W.I. meeting

History was the theme of the Bervie Women's Institute meeting when the ladies met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m.

Eleven members answered the Roll Call: “What type of book do you enjoy reading?”

After the usual openings, president Sylvia Hasbury read the poem, “A Treasure,” followed by the minutes and treasurer's report. A donation of $50 will go toward the cost of containers for goods going to the Iraqi refugee camp. The Bervie W.I. will also donate a copy of the “W.I. 150th Stories” to the Kincardine Library.

Sandra MacDonald and Betty Anne Thompson will attend the ACWW Canadian Area Conference in Pembroke in June.

This year is the 110th anniversary of the Bervie W. I. and plans will be made for a special event.

Sylvia Hasbury then spoke on how she went about starting to write short history events for the Bruce County Historical Society and also the three small books she has written. After taking a writing course, she began compiling volumes of information on the topic she was to write about – of course, this all had to be condensed. Local history is her passion.

The next meeting will be at RVilla in Ripley, Wednesday, March 1, at 2 p.m.  We thank Joyce Roach for the tasty snacks she provided.
