Colourful giant turtle wins snow scupture contest at Tiverton Winterfest
Josh and Katie Kunkel and Matt and Kate McKenzie of Tiverton, and their families, created a colourful, blue-and-green giant turtle snow sculpture, taking first prize in the contest, hosted by the Tiverton Lions Club, during Tiverton Winterfest, Saturday morning.

Coming in second place, were Steve Hutter and his daughters, Emily and Katie, of Kincardine, with a Stegosaurus. And Jackson Scholtz, 8, of Underwood had some help from friends to create an igloo which came in third.

It was all part of the fun at the two-day Winterfest celebration which kicked off Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast put on by the Tiverton Goodtimers. The hockey club served bacon, eggs, pancakes and sausage, with all the fixings, to a good crowd, followed by a draw for sports tickets and raffle prizes.

The Tiverton Library staff invited youngsters out of the bitterly cold day, to enjoy story time, songs, games and crafts.

Saturday afternoon, Don Scott and his family of Teeswater, brought their team of mules, "Ruby" and Pearl," and took people on sleigh rides, with driver Cedric Scott at the reins, assisted by Ashley MacDonald. The sun may have been shining, but everyone was bundled up against the harsh wind.


A Euchre Party was held at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre, Saturday afternoon, sponsored by the Tiverton Agricultural Society.

Tiverton Winterfest continues Sunday, with a worship service at 10 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, followed by a free chili lunch, courtesy of the Hutton family, at the church.

A family fun skating party with ice-painting, and free hot dogs, is at the Tiverton Arena, sponsored by the Tiverton Lions Club, and the day ends with Fiddle Tunes and Folk Songs by Eliza Jane at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre.
