Week of wild, windy, weird weather

The past week has been a mixed bag of weird weather in the Kincardine area.

Wednesday afternoon, a bitterly-cold wind whipped the Lake Huron water into waves and was a chilling reminder that winter still has its grip on the region.

However, by Saturday, the weather was more like spring, with rain and a high of plus-four degrees Celsius.

Then Sunday morning, winter was back with heavy snowfall in the morning, and high wind by the evening. This combination caused power outages for thousands of Hydro One and Westario Power customers all across southwestern Ontario, including Kincardine, Lucknow, Ripley, Port Elgin, and east into Wingham and Listowel.

The power flickered several times throughout the evening, with hydro finally restored to most of the area by 9 p.m.

The heavy snow and wind were so bad in-land, that Amberley Road (Line 86) was closed from Wingham to Listowel due to blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility. Other road closures included:
 

• Highway 4 between Blyth and Teeswater (due to Hydro One repairs)
• Highway 23 (also known as Road 164) between Mitchell and Palmerston
• Road 123 between Teviotdale and Palmerston
• Road 109 between Arthur and Teviotdale
• Highway 9 between Walkerton and Harriston
• Highway 6 between Mount Forest and Fergus
• Highway 10 between Dundalk and Shelburne
• County Road 124 from Singhampton to Shelburne
• Grey County Road 4 from Highway 10 to Grey Road 124
• Grey Road 8 from Highway 89 to Grey Road 9
• Grey Road 14 between Conn and Hopeville

Amazingly, Highway 21 remained open.
