Kincardine LEGO Warriors compete in provincial championships

Team 4137, the LEGO Warriors, represented Kincardine at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League (FLL) Western Ontario Provincial Championships, Feb. 4, at the University of Waterloo.

The team, comprised of students from Huron Heights Public School, École Elgin Public Market, and a home-schooled student, qualified for the provincials by winning the Robot Design Award at the Kincardine LEGO League regional Nov. 26, 2016.

FLL competitions have four parts: a robot design presentation, a teamwork challenge, a design project, and a challenge where the team’s robot competes against the other teams’ robots.

For the design project, the team worked together with PRANCE Miramichi Stables in Port Elgin to develop a concept involving therapy horses. Team 4137 created and tested a prototype safety restraint to help differently-able riders get on and off the horses.

The Warriors' robot (Flareon) had problems early in the competition, but they found and fixed the problem in time for their final match.

The LEGO Warriors placed 27^th out of the 40 teams at the competition on the table challenge, and scored well on their robot design, teamwork, and project-judging sessions.
