Swashbuckling crew fills t' Kincardine Legion for Pirate Trivia Night

It was a scurvy lot that crowded t' Kincardine Legion Hall, Friday night, for a special round of Pirate Trivia.

About 165 people, many in swashbuckling gear, waving fierce cutlasses, and peering from behind eye-patches and parrots, were up t' the mangey task at hand.

Amidst shouts of "Ahoy, Matey!", "Huzzah!" and "Aaarrrrgh!", trivia-master Laura Haight began the six rounds of questions, which included a vast variety of queries, loosely based on pirates, ships and the sea.

There was even a geography category, as teams tried to identify the islands in the Caribbean on a map, and a music category with clips of various songs played and the teams had to figure out who the artists were.

At any time, a team could hoist the Jolly Roger card and get 10 free points, or play for double the points on a category. Working with Haight, were Scurvy Gert (Cathy Alcombrack) and her team of volunteers.

It was riotous good fun and by the end of the night, blimey, if there wasn't about $1,600 raised for the Legion's new-furnace fund.

Tying for the win, were Team Black Beerd and Team Easily Distracted; while placing third, was Team Skull and Cross Bones.

The next Trivia Night is set for March 17, St. Patrick's Day, at 7 p.m. at the Legion.
